It is made up of three charities run as a not for profit social housing project managed by a group of local trustees. Each is a single bedroom property with a small garden area.

Our homes are designed to offer comfortable living for older people and we welcome applications from individuals aged 60 and over who meet our eligibility criteria.

Process

Trustees carefully consider all new applications, as well as any changes in the circumstances of existing applicants. Applications are reviewed based on a number of factors, including:

  • Age
  • Medical circumstances
  • Proximity to the Almshouses
  • Need

Applicants are placed on a waiting list in order of priority, based on the information provided on the application form.

When a Property Becomes Available

When a property becomes vacant, the Trustees review the applications on the waiting list and screen them for suitability. This involves considering the applicant’s preferences and matching these with the available accommodation.

  • A shortlist of applicants is drawn up based on priority and date of application.
  • Shortlisted applicants are invited to view the property.
  • If an applicant decides to accept the property, the following steps are completed.

Next Steps for New Residents

Once a property is accepted, the process is straightforward:

  • Sign the appointment letter agreement.
  • Agree on a moving-in date.
  • Receive the keys to your new home.

New residents are responsible for the internal decoration of their home, including carpets, but the Butterfield Almshouse ensure suitable floor coverings are provided in the kitchen and bathroom.

Settling In

After moving in, we conduct a welcome visit to ensure that you are familiar with the heating system and any other fixtures and fittings in your new home. Our team is always available to assist you as you settle into your new surroundings.
